There are two kinds of pain, acute and chronic.\u00a0 Acute pain comes on suddenly and can last anywhere between a couple seconds to a few months.\u00a0 Acute pain can be mild or severe depending on the cause of the pain. It is important to know that acute pain will go away when the cause of pain has been treated, for example, the healing of a broken bone.\u00a0 However, chronic pain can appear slowly for no obvious reason or persist for months after an injury.\u00a0 Chronic pain can usually be described as a dull or achy pain and can last for months to even years. \u00a0 Chronic pain is often very difficult to treat because many times there appears to be no physical injury, like in the case of arthritis. It is usually chronic pain that requires a pain management approach.
